Tata Ronkholz
Shortly before the demolition work for the redevelopment of Düsseldorf's Rhine harbour, Tata Ronkholz and Thomas Struth expressed the wish for a detailed photographic documentation:
"For reasons of urban history, we consider this work to be extremely important. In its formally and functionally homogeneous situation, the harbour is one of the most beautiful examples of Düsseldorf's industrial architecture", they both wrote in May 1979.
The archive has the original confirmation from the Düsseldorf Municipal Ports dated 05.10.1979, in which Roswitha (Tata) Ronkholz and Thomas Struth were granted permission for their extensive photographic work on behalf of the Düsseldorf Municipal Ports.
The two artists thus created a unique contemporary historical document, which was highly recognised by the city of Düsseldorf. In 1981, the Düsseldorf City Museum purchased 82 works from the collection of harbour photographs.
